Mosquito Management Incorporating Bti

mosquitoMosquitoes pose a huge threat to the health and safety of a population owing to them being vectors of disease. Disease outbreaks involving Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya are unfortunately all too common in the region and each year many thousands of people will be affected. At ORIGIN we believe in providing the best possible protection for our customers whilst working to ensure that non-target, beneficial insects as well as the wider environment, are not affected.

Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis or Bti as it is commonly known specifically targets mosquito larvae, and does not harm beneficial insects such as dragonflies, lady bugs, etc.

mosquito eliminationConventional mosquito control techniques involve thermal fogging whereby a pesticide is mixed with diesel and introduced into the environment in the form of a fog. The pesticide introduced is an adulticide which targets only adult mosquitoes. Besides being ineffective for mosquito control, this method also harms beneficial insects and may affect individuals with respiratory problems. This problem is not encountered with Bti as it is delivered in a water based mist, not smoke.

At ORIGIN, we have developed an environmentally sustainable alternative which allows for the effective management of mosquitoes and also restores the ecological balance in nature, i.e. not harming the natural predators such as dragonflies which prey on mosquitoes and lady bugs which feed on other pests.

Mosquito Solutions

An innovative delivery system called Ultra Low Volume (ULV) mist blowers used to deliver Bti into the micro and macro habitats of mosquitoes. When the mosquito larvae consume Bti, the toxins attach themselves to the gut of the larvae and perforate the gut, causing paralysis in the larvae and eventually death.
