Mosquito Control
Mosquito as a pest

Mosquitoes pose a huge threat to the health and safety of a population owing to them being vectors of disease. Disease outbreaks involving Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya are unfortunately all too common in the region and each year many thousands of people will be affected.

Dengue and dengue haemorrhagic fever is a major public health problem. In Singapore, urbanisation has created new breeding grounds for this vector and has accelerated the spread of the dengue virus. Vector control is required to stop the progress of dengue. Dengue is transmitted to humans by the Aedes aegypti mosquito bite. Dengue fever feels like a severe case of the flu, including pain in the muscles and joints. It takes only 7 days for Aedes mosquito egg in stagnant water to become an adult mosquito.

ORIGIN can help make sure mosquitoes do not breed and cause dengue. This message has taken on more urgency especially when dengue cases tend to rise during the first four months of the year. ORIGIN provides mosquito control methods that target the mosquitoes that spread dengue.

ORIGIN Biological Mosquito Management, incorporating Bti as the solution to mosquito problems
At ORIGIN we believe in providing the best possible protection for our customers whilst working to ensure that non-target, beneficial insects as well as the wider environment, are not affected.

What is BTi?
Mosquito|bti|bacteriaMosquito|bti|Fumigation|Mosquito control|pest controlBacillus thuringiensis, Bti, is a naturally occurring soil micro-organism that has insecticidal toxicity; this species of bacterium has very diverse strains which exhibit target specific insecticidal properties. Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis or Bti, as it is commonly known specifically targets mosquito larvae, and does not harm beneficial insects such as dragonflies and lady bugs. In addition, Bti, as a means of control offers a higher efficacy rate than conventional mosquito control methods.

Treatment processes and its advantages
This treatment is applied using a water based mist, and a backpack misting unit. This mode of dispersal is most suited to outdoor applications, where the mist simulates rain, and thus will be able to reach all possible microhabitats within the area effectively. Another key advantage of this method, is that due to its water based nature, it will not leave stains on pavement areas and the building exterior. Most importantly, it effectively eliminates mosquito larvae breeding within your premises.

ORIGIN’S 2in1 Treatment
Mosquito|larvae|mosquito bite|pest SingaporeMosquito|pest control|Mosquito ManagementThis treatment can be coupled with a residual pesticide, which will coat all surfaces that the mist falls on. When adult mosquitoes land on the treated areas, the residual effect of the pesticide will eliminate them. This is termed as ORIGIN’s 2 in 1 treatment, and with this treatment, you can rest assured that your building occupants will be able to have peace of mind from mosquito attacks.
In addition, in order not to interfere with production operations of your site, this misting treatment can be carried out before or after office hours.

Given that all properties tend to have potted plants and landscaping within the building grounds, there is a need to ensure that these areas do not become microhabitats for mosquitoes to breed. The same will apply to food manufacturing buildings in industrial areas.

Mosquito |pharmaceutical | Pest control |pest Singapore | laboratory

For pharmaceuticals and laboratories, the locale often gives rise to mosquito problems, given that most sites are situated in factory areas surrounded by unoccupied plots of land.

Mosquito |Hotel | Pest control |pest Singapore

Mosquitoes are a major concern in the hospitality and tourism industry, as you want your guests to enjoy the most restful stay possible. Mosquito bites are a nuisance as they raise an itchy welt. In addition, with the presence of Aedes mosquitoes in our tropical climate, each bite puts your guest at risk of contracting dengue fever.

Conventional mosquito treatment of fogging would not be feasible in a hotel, as it is disruptive. In addition, ORIGIN does not advocate fogging as it is not environmentally friendly, and not very effective. Instead, ORIGIN recommends that hotels minimize the use of treatment applications, as these, for the most part, involve a certain level of noise, and obvious presence of pest management technicians and equipments, which may put off guests. Thus, we recommend a programme of thorough inspections of all susceptible areas for breeding. In addition, if your establishment has large areas of landscaping on premises, we recommend the application of biological mosquito control.
