Medifly
Medifly is the product brand name for sterile, hospital grade maggots, used in maggot debridement therapy under the name of ‘BioDressings’.
These maggots are produced under laboratory conditions and are sterile to ensure the safety of the product when used. A predetermined number of maggots are packaged in either a vial form, or a bag, and these maggots are subsequently placed directly onto the patients’ wound for the removal of necrotic tissues or slough in the wound beds.
Maggot Debridement Therapy is a non-aggressive form of slough/necrotic tissue removal. When MDT is carried out with the use of ORIGIN Scientia’s MediFly, the slough/necrotic tissueis removed by either direct ingestation of the maggots on the wound or by softening of the slough/necrotic tissue by maggot oral secretions. This form of wound debridement has been proven to be a cost effective solution in chronic wound debridement.
