BEHAVIOUR
Banded Kraits are known for their distinctive behaviour of coiling up and raising their heads when threatened, a behaviour known as “the death adder pose”.

BREEDING
Banded Kraits are typically solitary animals though they may be found in small groups during mating season.

FEEDING
The Banded Krait feeds on mainly small mammals and other snakes.

HABITAT
Banded Kraits are often found hiding in crevices or burrows during the day. 

MOVEMENT
They are more active at night when they hunt for prey, and are known to be excellent swimmers and climbers.

Oriental Whip Snake

BEHAVIOUR
Oriental Whip Snakes are active during the day and spend much of their time in trees and shrubs, using their tail to grasp branches and vines.

BREEDING
The Oriental Whip Snake lay eggs in protected areas like hollow trees, under leaves or in abandoned bird nests.

They typically breed during the rainy season. 

FEEDING
Oriental Whip Snakes have rear-facing teeth that help them hold onto their prey as they swallow it.

IDENTIFY
The Oriental Whip Snake has excellent eyesight which they use to spot prey from a distance and their thin bodies allow them to reach into narrow crevices to catch their prey.

HABITAT
They are often found in areas with dense vegetation such as gardens, parks and forests.

The Paradise Tree Snake is generally non-aggressive towards humans, only becoming defensive when cornered or threatened.

Paradise Tree Snakes lay eggs in tree hollows or crevices, typically during the monsoon season.

The male Paradise Tree Snake may engage in combat during breeding season to compete for mates.

FEEDING
They feed on lizards and small mammals like rodents and bats.

SPECIAL ABILITY
The Paradise Tree Snake is also known as the “flying snake” due to its ability to glide through air. It uses a combination of specialised scales, muscular movements and air currents.

HARMFLESS
Its venom is primarily used to immobilize small prey and is not harmful to humans.

Reticulated pythons are capable swimmers and can often be found in or near bodies of water.

Female Reticulated Python lay their eggs in hidden locations such as tree hollows, abandoned burrows and other protected sites.

FEEDING
They feed on a wide variety of prey: small mammals (rats, squirrels), birds (chickens), reptiles (lizards, snakes and turtles), and large mammals (wild boars and primates).

IDENTIFY
Reticulated Pythons are generally non-aggressive and will avoid confrontation with humans. But they can be dangerous if provoked or threatened. 

TRAIT
“Reticulated” means “net-like” or having a pattern of intersecting lines or markings.
