Termite Management incorporating
Exterra Termite Interception and Baiting System
The ORIGIN Termite Baiting System (OTBS), using Exterra is an innovative baiting system, proven for colony elimination.
After eliminating attacking colonies, the OTBS System provides protection of structures by continuous monitoring. This enables detection of other new colonies serving as a "Termite-burglar alarm".
The OTBS System provides property protection through a three-step process:
- Detection of termites
- Elimination of termite colonies
- Monitor continuously for new termite activity to prevent re-infestation.
How does the system work?
Inconspicuous OTBS stations are installed in the soil around the perimeter of your structure. Wood-based monitoring devices are included in the station at the time of installation, and these devices are routinely examined by an ORIGIN trained professional for signs of termite infestation.
When termite activity is detected within the stations the bait is added.
The Exterra termite bait is of extremely low toxicity to you, your family, your dog or cat and the environment. In fact, the chemical used is less toxic than common table salt. The bait is placed in tamper-resistant plastic stations to guard against interference by children or pets.
What is the special Bait?
The Exterra termite bait, Requiem, is highly palatable to termites, which readily consume the bait in preference to timber. Various field studies have shown that once termites start feeding on the bait they will stop feeding on the timbers in your home. Termites feed on the bait and take it back to the central colony nest where it is shared with other termites - during their grooming and feeding of each other - in a process known as trophyllaxis.
The active ingredient in Requiem is called Chlorfluazuron. This is a chitin synthesis inhibitor, which prevents the formation of chitin. Chitin is needed by the termites to form their exoskeleton during the moulting process (growth). Thus when they consume the bait, the termites are not able to synthesize new chitin layers after they have shed the old layer and die as a result.
Since the termites die gradually, they do not associate the colony's demise with the termite bait or the location of the stations. This usually means termite colony elimination occurs within a few months of consumption of the bait.
As the worker termites die off, the termite colony declines to the point where it can no longer sustain itself, ultimately leading to its collapse and elimination.
FOCUS!! Termite Interception Zone
FOCUS is a natural, non-toxic, food based additive that is added to the Exterra Stations. Once in contact with the soil, it works with soil micro-organisms to slowly release a small, precisely determined amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into the soil.
Termites are attracted to levels of CO2 that mimic those naturally given off by both rotting wood and termite nests, so the CO2 in the soil directs termites to Exterra In-Ground Stations instead of the structure.
The large Exterra Stations protects the structure and will only intercept those termites that have entered into and are actually foraging in your garden.

Environmental Concerns about Chlorfluazuron
- Toxicity: Chlorfluazuron is a very low toxic insecticide.
- Not a poison according to the criteria of the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
- Non-hazardous based on criteria of the National Occupational Health & Safety Commission
- No abnormalities were observed in reproduction tests on rats, and teratogenicity was not observed in tests on rats and mice using pure chlorfluazuron, the active ingredient in Requiem.
- Results of mutagenic tests were found to be negative
- Pharmacological tests: No abnormalities observed with tests on CNS, blood pressure, respiration, electrocardiograms.
- Very high LD50 - Oral toxicity is very low.
- Does not affect non-target organisms
- Higher LD50 value = less toxic product
- Arsenic dust LD50 = 7mg/kg
- Fipronil LD50 = 95mg/kg
- Chlorpyrifos LD50 = 240mg/kg
- Table salt LD50 = 3600mg/kg
- Pure chlorfluazuron LD50 = 8500mg/kg.
- Thus for Requiem LD50 = 85,000,000mg/kg
- Small amounts required for colony elimination: An Exterra In-ground station when full contains less than 400mg (0.1%) of chlorfluazuron.
Requiem is less toxic than table salt!!
