Termites as pests
Termites, commonly known as "white ants" are insidious pests which can hollow out building timbers from the inside, as well as wooden flooring and fixtures, quietly and continually, causing extensive damage resulting in expensive repair costs. In addition, any perceivable termite ("white ant") damage tends to be very unsightly, especially the termite trails, which are made of mud, will leave stains on concrete and plaster walls. ORIGIN Termite Baiting System incorporating ExterraTM is an environmentally friendly and effective solution to protect your building.

ORIGIN Termite Management, incorporating Exterra as the solution
The ORIGIN Termite Baiting System (OTBS), using ExterraTM is an innovative baiting system, proven for colony elimination. After eliminating attacking termite colonies, the OTBS System provides protection of structures by continuous monitoring. This results in a continuous cycle of protection for your building. Furthermore, for commercial properties of a large size, it would be almost impossible to carry out effective conventional spot treatment, as the visual inspection needed to effectively target active termite trails would be highly time consuming and labour intensive. As such, it would be more cost effective and efficient to put in place a blanket protection measure to safeguard your property from termite attacks.
The OTBS System provides property protection through a three-step cyclical process:
1. Detection of termites
2. Elimination of termite colonies
3. Consistent monitoring for new termite activity to prevent re-infestation.

How does the system work?
Inconspicuous OTBS stations are installed in the soil and concrete around the perimeter of your building. The stations look very discreet. The in ground concrete stations are sealed flush to the floor whilst the in ground soil stations have inconspicuous brown seal caps. Thus it would not detract from the elegant décor of your establishment.
Eucalyptus timber strips, which are attractive to termites, are included in the station at the time of installation, so that any termites foraging in and around your home are attracted to these stations. These stations are routinely examined by an ORIGIN trained professional for signs of termite infestation.
Only when termite activity is detected within the stations the bait is added. This ensures that the bait remains fresh, and that more of it is consumed and subsequently brought back to the colony nest. The bait is placed in tamper-resistant plastic stations which can only be opened by our pest control technicians, thus preventing your valued guests from inadvertently stumbling upon and opening the stations.
What is the special Termite Bait?
The OTBS termite bait is of extremely low toxicity to people and the environment. In fact, the bait used is less toxic than common table salt! The OTBS termite bait, Requiem, is highly palatable to termites, which readily consume the bait in preference to timber in your establishment. This means that once the OTBS stations are installed, the termites would prefer feeding in the stations to feeding on your wooden fixtures.
The active ingredient in Requiem is called Chlorfluazuron. This is a chitin synthesis inhibitor, which prevents the formation of chitin. Chitin is needed by the termites to form their exoskeleton during the moulting process (growth). Thus when they consume the bait, the termites are not able to synthesize new chitin layers after they have shed the old layer and die as a result. Since the termites die gradually, they do not associate the colony’s demise with the termite bait or the location of the stations. This means that they will continue feeding on that bait, and total termite colony elimination would then occur within a few months of consumption of the bait. As the worker termites die off, the termite colony declines to the point where it can no longer sustain itself, ultimately leading to its collapse and elimination.

FOCUS!! Termite Interception Zone FOCUS is a natural, non-toxic, food based additive that is added to the Exterra Stations. Once in contact with the soil, it works with soil micro-organisms to slowly release a small, precise amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into the soil, which mimics rotting wood. This attracts termites to the stations instead of your establishment. The large Exterra Stations protects the structure and will only intercept those termites that have entered into and are actually foraging in your garden.

Termites / white ants literally destroy our homes from the inside, quietly and continually, causing extensive damage resulting in expensive repair costs. The ORIGIN Termite Baiting System however not only destroys entire termite colonies, it also provides protection for years to come. Regular monitoring by our trained pest professionals gives homeowners something of real value, peace of mind that their home is protected.

Termites / White ants can cause structural damages costing thousands of dollars to repair. Termites are also prone to gain entry into buildings via tiny cracks in the structure, and may inadvertently contaminate your GMP areas should they find an entry via building structural cracks. In addition, when feeding on your structural timbers or fixtures, termites can pose a safety concern as the building’s structure and fixtures may no longer be stable after they are hollowed out.ORIGIN Termite Baiting System incorporating Exterra is an environmentally friendly and effective solution for your establishment.
Termite Detection
- Pippa, Termite Detection Dog
- Thermal Imaging
Termites / White ants are sensitive to humidity and tend to nest in humid areas since they cannot regulate their water loss. As such, thermal imaging can be used to locate termite nesting areas, as areas of high humidity would tend to be slightly cooler than its surroundings. Using a high tech thermal imager that can indicate temperature variations up to a 0.1C range, we will locate areas in your establishment that the termites are nesting or foraging actively, thus verifying and tracking down an active infestation. However this entails that for larger buildings, the thermal imaging must be done sector by sector in order to ensure that a thorough inspection is done.
