Which Ate What? Termites vs. Ants

Termites are tiny ant-like insects that feed on materials rich in cellulose. Coming from the family Isoptera, they have six legs and are very social insects like the ants which in turn come from the family Formicidae. Both live in colonies with a social structure composed of a hierarchy of members. They both have the workers that gather food, the soldiers that protect the colony, and the queen that lays eggs. Pippa, The Termite Detection Dog

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Hello everyone! I’m Pippa, and I’m here to help you get rid of the termites in your house :) I specialise in sniffing out termites.

Unlike the average human, dogs like me have sensitive noses which can pick up the distinctive scent of termites. This means that when I enter your house, I can detect the presence of termites or a termite attack simply by sniffing around. And I’m hardly ever wrong – I have a 98% success rate, as compared to a human’s 40% limited accuracy! In fact, I very much want to locate termites as I am rewarded with yummy treats, so I will neither get lazy nor slack off.

Termites cause billions of dollars’ worth of structural damage each year. With me around, however, you can help to prevent termites infesting your home or office. So, if you suspect that your premises might have a termite infestation, please do not hesitate to contact me at 6280 5666 at pippa@origin.com.sg. I’ll come immediately to pay you a visit! I also recommend ORIGIN Termite Baiting System, to eliminate your termite problems, as ORIGIN is a reliable termite control specialist.

Take Care of the Environment: Pest Management

Monday, March 7th, 2011

With the onslaught of unpredictable weather all around the world, it’s time to have a think about the methods that we adopt towards pest control. Whenever we see ants, the first thing that comes to our mind is commercial pesticide spray, and more often than not, we spend a good 5 to 10 minutes chasing the pest around and spraying every square inch of the floor.

However, every single time we use pesticides, we are contributing to the growing hole in the ozone layer as well as global warming, which in turn, is responsible for the bouts of nasty weather!

Another good reason to avoid commercial pesticides is due to their highly toxic nature. Long-term inhalation and skin contact with pesticides can lead to health problems. If you have children, old folks or pets living with you, then its time to get rid of those bottles of commercial spray.

Here at ORIGIN, we have a strong environmental policy regarding pest control. Some of our methods of pest elimination include gel baiting, as well as ULV misting (not fogging)

So, the next time you spot ants in your midst, swap your pesticides for exclusion methods like wiping up any spilled food or drink. It’s a good way to kill the pest without killing the ozone layer. Better yet, give ORIGIN a call at 6280 5666. Our technicians here are more than happy to help you get rid of the pest quickly and efficiently. :)
